I haven't bought the Asian & South Asian character packs yet, and I'm wondering how customizable they are. I know they come with only a few outfits, hairstyles, etc, but can you change the colors of the clothes/hair/etc., or remove aspects of the outfits like the scarves? And can you change the chins, noses, etc., like you can in the other character packs? Can you add custom textures to the characters, so that (for example) clothes could have another pattern or color? I'm very curious about the characters, but I don't really want to spend $16 just to see what they can do.

south asian pack woman and daughter:

EYES: you can change eye color, but no attachments or additional eyes

HAIR: you get 2 or 3 built-in hair styles and the ability to change color & texture
plus the ability to replace hair with a modelled attachment.

EARs: one earring for each ear, plus the ability to import an ear attachment

TOP: you get two different styles of top, plus the ability to change the texture and color of each. A third option is the nude form, which also allows a texture... but I have not seen a texture map for any of the characters since Mandy. With a texture map you could make outfits like we can for the original potato heads. No attachments allowed for the top

GLOVES: color and texture can be changes for the hands and the nails

HANDS: the usual assortment of accessories are available for her to hold, plus you can import attachments

WRIST: one bracelet, color and texture are changeable.. plus it can be replaced with an attachment

LEGS: 3 outfits which can be textured and colored. No attachments. Its worth noting that one of the daughter's leg options is a long dress made from soft cloth! So no clipping! And it can be textured! I think the outfits for these characters in general are very nice, and the fact that you can change the textures and colors makes this set well worth the price

INSTRUMENTS: She can play all the instruments and new ones can be imported as attachments

its a fairly repetitive answer, so you might gloss over it... but I'd like to specifically make sure you saw the note about the long dress made of soft cloth that comes with the south asian daughter character

Thanks so much for the info, PatMarrNC! So, to be clear, NONE of these characters have texture maps available anywhere, right?

not that I'm aware of... BUT....

One big difference between these characters and the potato heads is that the potato heads are made from one solid mesh. For the potato heads you NEED a UV map in order to know where the shirt ends and the pants begin if you want to create new outfits.

These characters are actually EASIER because they use a separate model for the top, legs etc.... so you can apply a texture directly to the blouse or skirt without having to worry about it bleeding over into something else.

If you want a blouse with buttons, you might have to experiment get the placement right... but I bet they'd be in the center of the texture

But, here's where it gets better: With the old characters we had to paint the clothes onto the bodies. (you can still do that with these characters)... but the NEW outfits have dimension and soft cloth! Skirts, pants, scarves, sweaters etc have their own bulk, so they look like they exist on top of the character instead of looking like they're painted on! I like this a lot! It's a very good implementation of clothing in my opinion.

When you consider how easy it is to apply a texture to a skirt or sweater, that the clothes look more realistic and that they move with the characters... you begin to realize that these characters are different in a GOOD way. The changes have made these characters easier to modify.

Thanks for asking this question, because I had bought these characters but never really examined them to understand how the differences are actually improvements. Answering your question has opened my eyes in a good way, and I'll be using these characters a lot more as time goes on.

Now that I've discovered the long soft cloth dress, I'll have to make some more Civil war era women (daughters maybe...)

If you edit the texture and the screen comes up where you pick or import the texture there is a folder called UV Templates. There you can also find the Asian templates. Select one and click the Edit button.

Hmp. I bought & installed the South Asian pack. I created an asian character named Shanti, r.click & edit...then decals tab & click custom texture...

When I click on the UV templates - all the standard Characters show but *none* of the Asian characters?!

Did I miss something?

with appreciation,

I get the same thing. (actually, I do get the ASIAN characters, but not the SOUTH ASIAN characters)

But as stated above in a different message: The new characters have less need for UVMaps since the clothes can already be colored and textured without having to paint your own texture on a UVMap.

How do I change a potato head character to have pants from the Chinese History Pack like in the above picture? I've tried changing the "costume/bottom" but it is other pant style (knickers?). Then - as described above in Ikes 18/12/2016 post, I went to the character's "decals" tab/custom texture/UV templates/Asian man - saw the pants that I want ("Legs2") - but it doesn't add those pants to the character?!

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

For some reason, not all of the potato headed characters can use the costumes provided by the add-on packs. I'm not at my video computer at the moment so I can't tell you which ones do... but those that do will have an extra entry in their edit screen, which says COSTUMES. These outfits would be applied through the COSTUMES menu, not the TOP or LEGS menu.

PatMarrNC - thanks for the quick reply. I am seeing the Costumes menu the potato head character but it is not showing that choice of pants ...only when I go to the decals tab/uv textures do I see the choice of pants I want. That pic I showed (btw - how do you get the pic to embed in the post instead of having to click on the broken img box? I put in an http:// url...) is from the Chinese history pack in the MZU store...so it can be done

thanks,

I see what you mean, now that I'm at my video computer...

You're seeing more than I'm seeing! In that area I don't see the picture you posted. But it must be possible. Maybe Jamie could sort this out. I've looked all over and don't see any way to recreate the character in that photo. (and I have all of the add-on packs)

I can't find the top or hat in the photo either. Please report back if you get an answer to this question.

I usually get the photo into PAINT, then select it and copy.... then in the message I PASTE, and the image is embedded.

BTW - I was using the new IE aka "Microsoft Edge" to copy & paste imgs. Chrome didn't work for me either but Firefox did (maybe it's a Windows 10 thing?). Thanks to Ikes for the tip!

this thread has been enlightening for me... I never realized that the potato heads don't all have the same options. For example the woman potato head (but NOT fat woman or girl) has costume options, which include the slacks that have already been discussed, as well as a long dress.

interesting.

I just discovered an interesting anomaly about this menu:

if you click on the WORDS "UV TEMPLATES", you get the choices shown above....
but if you click on the little triangle to the LEFT of the words, you get the missing South Asian character templates!

so, apparently all of the characters DO have templates if you know where to find them. Now I can sleep at night. ;-)

but wait... I don't have the ASIAN templates, as shown in the picture above! That's weird... anybody know why that might be?

Do you have the Asian pack installed under content packs? I just activated it in my latest version of muvizu and I can see the templates.

I used to have the south Asian character pack textures and now they are missing from mine as well. Also I can not get the boys eye size to animate when I try to open and close them. Anyone else have this issue ? Its been this way since I downloaded it months ago.

I do have it installed... and it must be activated, because I can load the characters and change their outfits.. I just can't find their UVMaps. I have to wonder if installing the South Asian set replaced their UVs... because on my system, the south Asian set shows up where the Asian set shows up in your screen shot.

I've submitted a query to support, maybe Jamie can sort it out.

It could be that the UV's of the Asian and the south Asian are the same. I only have the Asian pack, so I can't tell.

The Asian and South Asian UV Maps are definitely different.

update: Robert in support recommended re-downloading the Asian pack and reinstalling (I had already reinstalled to no avail)

I'm happy to report that after re-downloading the pack and reinstalling it, I have all of the UVMaps

Re-download and reinstall works here too.

Probably because the Asian Characters pack has been updated recently:
My "old" AC pack from february 2016 is 62 MB and the one downloaded today is 71 MB.

Wonder if other of my downloaded packs have been changed too ? and what the updates contains ?

That said: good to see that the packs are updated when necessary.

Robert mentioned that the UV maps were added later, so anybody who bought the Asian pack as soon as it was released should re-download and reinstall in order to get them. And good point Ritsmer... on principle I think I'll re-download everything to see if other file size changes exist!

I don't understand what you're saying here. The UVMaps don't reboot? Were you able to find them before, but now you can't?

Yeah Pat. I had them for a few months and then they disappeared.with updates.I haven't had the uv maps since October.Think it happened when I downloaded the other Asian pack. Also I have never been able to animate the kids eyes I messaged muvizu but they never got back to me about why his eyes do not close and shut. reinstalled everything too.

I'll assume you read this whole thread, which discusses other peoples' issues with these UVMaps, and how they solved them. Anything I might suggest is already posted to the thread, so if it hasn't yielded any help, I think this one is a question for support

Hey I want to buy Asian and South Asian characters packs but I need these kind of costumes for women and girls: https://www.shutterstock.com/es/image-vector/pakistanis-national-dress-flag-man-woman-695444050 especially. Can Muvizu or anyone private person can make custom costumes for these characters for me that can run efficiently within Muvizu? If yes please let me know cost.

Mainly I need shalwar kameez and head scarf;

Thanks for help.
