Bump Mapping... I have never seen any option (when editing a .FBX imported into Muvizu) which allows me to change anything other than the Diffuse image and colour and also the Specular and Emissive colours only. No Bump map image or colour and no Emissive or Specular images either. I guess it depends on what software you use to create the FBX.

I tested out the obj import with Windows 3d builder

Good work!! I tried downloading Windows 3D builder but it is trying to force me to set up a Microsoft account on my PC, so that ain't going to happen

hmmm.. that time I texture mapped the object before applying the texture ...

I don't understand what you mean there, Pat? Do you mean you opened the UV window in Milkshape and adjusted something on the UV front, whereas before you had just applied the material and left it with the default UV map? Because I have done both but still can't get 2 materials to show in Muvizu. I'll try just a single material and make it transparent.

New release update: Static lighting and OBJ import Pat I have just spent 5 fruitless minutes trying to find the thread where you and Ikes explained how to edit a file to allow transparencies in a .ASE file? Can you find it? I just wondered if there was anything there that might help with the .OBJ file.

Ta.

OK.. based on your input I was able to get a cube with JPG texture to load (PNGs don't though)... but i still got an invalid file format error, and the texture didn't show up on the model until I edited the property diffuse texture (which was empty, even though the MTL file clearly showed it)

Yep I get that as well.

New release update: Static lighting and OBJ import I exported the .OBJ from Milkshape3d and opened it in Blender where it appears to have only a single material (I am not a Blender user and find the GUI archane). I created the other material and used the transparent texture but I have no idea how to apply it to the "Window" in my box. So it looks like maybe Milkshape is the culprit in my case.
Would be good to know what tools Muvizu staff would use to create a mesh with two materials one of which is transparent.

as on open question to the forum: has ANYBODY been able to successfully laod an OBJ file with an image texture assigned to a surface?

Yes I have managed that, using a .jpg image of some wooden planks.

But like you, I have found that Muvizu only allows the editing of a single texture and does not support transparencies on .OBJ files.
Weirdly for the cube with the window in it, even though the window is not visible if you lift the block above the ground the shadow shows that thre is a hole in the cube. However the window is only in the top and the shadow suggests it goes right through the cube. This is the same behaviour I have seen with .ASE files.

update: I just exported the same cube from Milkshape, and it imported OK.... but I notice that milkshape did not create a .mtl file for the cube. Deleting the .mtl file for the other cubes generated by other modelling programs resulted in a "mtl file not found" error, because the OBJ file must have had an internal reference that the milkshape file did not have

update 2: I added a color to the cube in Milkshape, then exported as OBJ... this time Milkshape created a .mtl file, and the resulting model successfully imported to Muvizu. So apparently, these various modelling programs address the OBJ format differently, and Milkshapes version appears to match the format that Muvizu's importer is looking for.

Have you tried a milkshape3d model with two materials? One using an image texture and the other using a transparent .png or .dds file?

This latest version of Muvizu has an option to allow the user to create static lighting for their scene. Creating static lighting can take a long time to calculate, but it should significantly increase performance in the final scene.

Both of these features are available in Muvizu Play. Enjoy!

What is "SwarmAgent" and why does it need access through my firewall when I switch on Static lighting?

@primaveranz Were you able to select the model and move it around?

Yes I can.

New release update: Static lighting and OBJ import And a second Milkshape3d .OBJ file with a transparent window just shows up as "unknown file format" but it does load. I can edit it but there is only one material to edit instead of two so no window.

New release update: Static lighting and OBJ import Interestingly I just imported a .OBJ made using Milkshape3d and it worked fine (no need for an extra collision mesh).
But 2 different meshes made in Sketchup just bounce around uncontrollably and then sink through the floor once you switch off "Floats in the air".

New release update: Static lighting and OBJ import I'd be tempted to scale up the model by a factor of 10 and not create any collision mesh as I suspect the Muvizu import will take care of that anyway, then try again.

That looks like some sort of confusion over the path name, notice the forward and backward slashes after the drive name? Was the model on a USB stick? If so, save it to your PC before trying to import. Also make sure the .OBJ file (mesh) and any associated .MTL files (materials) are all in the same folder.

New release update: Static lighting and OBJ import Fair enough, but this is the place to do that :- http://www.muvizu.com/Forum/forum135-feedback.aspx
If people go off at tangents in threads the real message gets hard to follow.

WHERE ARE YOU? I live at the Top of the South Island of New Zealand.

My other main hobbies apart from digital movie-making are making real stuff, learning clawhammer banjo and Te Reo (Maori).

By the way Rodrisilva, my house in New Zealand is exactly opposite a field in Northern Portugal not far from the Spanish border

The most recent safe version of Muvizu? Thanks guys I went ahead and installed the latest one as a separate installation (I now have 6..I need to do some spring cleaning) but like UKBerty I'm still using the version two back from this one for WiPs.

The most recent safe version of Muvizu? What is the most recent version that I can risk updating to, since every upgrade breaks something and I have to install it in a different folder, reenter my serial number and find all the content.....
Anyone happy with the latest version yet?
