New tutorials made Hi Kaynine,

Toonarama is right- the difference between the two versions is pretty minimal (unless you upload a custom model - then your memory requirements increase pretty quickly) so I would say give it a go.

You can update by allowing the Muvizu launcher to access the internet - it's all automated and shouldn't take long with a broadband connection.

If you want to manually download and install the new version Muvizu I would recommend uninstalling it first.

Take care,
-Jim.

Edit: D'oh! I got distracted and Robert beat me to it.

How do I make a character lie down? There is currently no "lying down" pose for characters, so in order to have a character lie down you need to animate them into that position using "Fall Into Grave" or another "Falling down" animation.

If you want to have a character lying down at the start of a video you can start all of the other animation after the character has fallen down and crop the Timeline so that your video starts 8-10s later than normal, meaning that the falling down animation isn't recorded.

How do I use Muvizu on a Mac? Muvizu can only be run on a Windows operating system due to the fact that it is built upon the Unreal 3 engine.

You can install a Windows operating system on modern Macs with Intel Processors by using the Boot Camp utility that is bundled with OSX or by emulating a Windows Partition using such programmes as Parallels or VMware Fusion, but it would probably not perform as well.

You can find Apple's guide on the Boot Camp utility at:

Forum Overhaul Hi Hermit,

We are trying to keep that as concise as possible while keeping each forums purpose obvious - something that might make it look like there is more text is that the forums are now a little smaller due to the "Forum Latest" section over there ->

Take care,
-Jim.

new site design Hi Toonarama,

I am glad you like the new site; Des and Ian were nearly worked to death by Kerry

The thing that I think makes a lot of difference is one of the smaller changes; the Download, Tutorials and Forum buttons are now always visible.

A directory structure would make a lot of sense if users do have a lot of assets - I have passed that idea on.

Take care,
-Jim.

Lying down Hi Toonarama,

Unfortunately you have to animate the falling down/knock out first - a lying down pose is something that a lot of us want to implement but it isn't being worked on at the moment.

Take care,
-Jim.

P.S. I am going to move this to the "How do I?......" section as I would like "Tech Help" to be for "Oh crap Muvizu is broken!" type posts now that the forum has been changed. It's got nothing to do with my newly-granted administrator privileges going to my head....honest.

I will also add this to the"FAQs & Common Problems" as it has been brought up a couple of times.

Expressiveness Hi again Berty, I have poked the Devs and found out what had been suggested already:

1) A "neutral" state would be good. Sometimes characters are not happy/sad/angry - just a bit blank or bored. I can turn down the expressiveness on their character traits, but they will still smile inappropriately.

I have passed this on - seems like a pretty good idea

2) I use this expressiveness slider to control them quite extensively. This means saving many .set files for each camera swap in order to adjust. It would be good to be able to animate the expressiveness in a similar manner to eye size.

Animated Properties are being worked on by the Devs, but due to the fact that characters are more complex than objects it may be a while before it's implemented for them.

3) Many of the animations are extremely animated - this is fine for an big action in a small clip, but in a longer piece they are distracting. I know we have the "happy subtle" section, but I would like to see more actions of this magnitude. (Push button, drink, eat, sleep).

Eating and sleeping animations have been suggested in the past, but I have put forward a suggestion for more "subtle" animations.

If you have any other questions or suggestions please let us know.

Take care,
-Jim.

My thoughts on potential features Hi John, I am glad you are enjoying Muvizu.

Adding waypoints has been suggested in the past, and it is something that I would love to see. The devs are currently taking it under consideration, so hopefully it will make it's way into the app.

Take care,
-Jim.

Keyframe animator? Hi again artpen,

Keyframe animation is something that isn't planned at the moment but Object animation is currently being worked on - I believe it will be done in a similar manned to Camera Animation.

Take care,
-Jim.

Timeline update Hi Dreeko,

The Devs are currently looking at other ways to edit the timeline, such as editing length and changing their order - I can't give you a timeframe for the changes but they are being worked on.

Take care,
-Jim.

Small Bug Hi Berty/DB,

The devs have had a look at this already and there is a fix in the pipeline, so it should be sorted soon.

Take care, and thanks for reporting it.

character positioning Hi Blowe56789,

There are two ways to do your set positioning, both of which have their plus points:

Before animation
After animation

Before animation:
If you animate in a set that's built you know where the objects are and can animate accordingly. You will probably have a character stop short or run past where you want them to go, but this can be sorted by re-recording or by altering their starting position: all movement is relative, i.e. if you want a characters end point to move by 10 feet you move their starting point by 10 feet.

After animation:
This allows you to place objects in a position where the characters are already performing animations - the only downside is that this can be quite time consuming and you may end up with gaps in the backdrops.

I, personally, go for a combination of the two - I build a set that can be edited to fit the animations, if needed, that way I do not really need to worry too much about re-recording or gaps in backdrops.

If you have any other questions or suggestions please let us know.

Take care,
-Jim.

graphics card Hi Marvin,

If you can't replace your graphics card you might want to give this guide that I posted in the resources section a try:

http://www.muvizu.com/forum/topic463-performance-increase-programmes.aspx

It tells you how to set up a piece of software that MIGHT be able to get below-spec graphics cards to work with Muvizu. It's not guaranteed to work, and please remember that you use any 3rd party software at your own risk.

Take care,
-Jim.

Consistent crashing. Happy to help and glad to hear that it worked
2010/9/1 13:09:00
I can't go to the program Hi Nima,

Most crashes of that type can be fixed by updating Direct X and your Graphics card.

The Direct X update can be found at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

The Graphics Card Updates can be found at:

You can get the latest NVIDIA drivers from:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

And the latest ATI drivers from:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

If that doesn't work please let me know.

Take care,
-Jim.

I uploaded a video and it isn't on the Muvizu site Your uploaded video not appearing can be due to three things:

1. If you upload a video directly to YouTube it doesn't appear on this site
2. If the video has copyrighted music on it YouTube will automatically turn syndication off and as such it cannot be shown on other websites
3. All videos on the Muvizu site are moderated, which is only done during office hours (Mon-Fri 9:30 - 5:30 British time) so if you upload a video outside of these hours it may be a day or two before it's on the site.

If you have uploaded a video and it hasn't appeared within 48 hours (72 hours if you upload at the weekend) please go to the "Tech Help" section of the forum and let us know.
