   • Look carefully at the Japanese propaganda leading up to the bombing. They were issuing pamphlets on how to attack American soldiers. They were trying to commit their citizens to involvement in the war. As well the casualty estimates include civilians, so they die either way. I'm not totally disagreeing with you, it is still a mass slaughter, but hands were tied and options were limited. Its best summed up as a necessary evil. Not justified, but necessary to avoid more loss of live.

   • There's a difference between attacking military personnel and government bodies who have made an actual attack and bombing a city filled with innocent (relatively speaking) lives. Soldiers have made the choice to risk their lives and to kill for their country. The families, the children, the average citizen, has not. War is war, but when you kill civilians indiscriminately, regardless of your purpose, that's not an act of war. That's mass murder, plain and simple.

   • Its not that simple, and I bet you know that. The Japanese refused to surrender, conditionally or unconditionally. Thus if we wanted to end the war the options were either such a show of force that they surrender, or invade their country and kick them into peace. If you look at the estimates from both modern times and pre bombing invasion would have cost vastly more lives. While I grant you that they could not bomb us they were still a threat because they would not give up.

   • And this is how stupid typical americans are - and I'm a damn american :/ this sucks. They had nothing to BOMB US WITH. We taken out like 95% of their aircraft carriers and long range stuff so yea.... their was no threat of a attack on our nation.
