Switch instruments Hi Pete,

I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with - and thanks for the kind words.

I will be sticking around the forums to help out for a while anyway - I have enjoyed my time at Muvizu and I believe in the software, it's just sometimes you get an offer that's too good to turn down.

Take care,
-Jim.

Extra objects 3D Hi Geoff,

I am glad that you got it working - it's really strange that it worked for normal objects but not imported ones.

Just in case it crops up again for other users could you please tell me what your old and new cards are?

Take it easy,
-Jim.

Sad old man Hi Kabum, thanks for trying Muvizu.

That's a brilliant video - I hope that we see many more!

If you have any questions or suggestions please let us know.

Take it easy,
-Jim

Switch instruments Hi Pete,

If you mean at the start then you would need to change the character's attachments by right-clicking on them.

If you want to change it during the animation it isn't possible at the moment - it may be possible in the future with additions to the attachment system or the addition of holdable objects, but I can't offer any sort of timeline as other additions to Muvizu are being worked on at the moment.

Take care,
-Jim.

Extra objects 3D Hello again Geoff,

I spoke to one of the Devs and they have suggested updating your DirectX and Graphics card drivers.

The latest DX version can be downloaded from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

You can get the latest NVIDIA drivers from:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

And the latest ATI drivers from:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

If that doesn't work could you please e-mail the screenshot along with one of the objects and a note of what's happening (just in case someone else opens it) to bugs@muvizu.com ?

Take care,
-Jim

Extra objects 3D Hi Geoff, no worries - hopefully we can get to the bottom of this sooner rather than later.

When does that Vertex error come up? Is it when you try to import the objects?

Cheers,
-Jim.

Extra objects 3D Hi Geoff,

It's possible that the version of the exporter that you are using has the texture location set as somewhere else. You can check by opening up one of your .ASE files using a text editor or Notepad ++ and looking for these entries:

*SUBMATERIAL 0 {
*MATERIAL_NAME "<YellowGreen>"
*MATERIAL_CLASS "Standard"
*MAP_DIFFUSE {
*MAP_CLASS "Bitmap"
*BITMAP "C:\ut3\toto.bmp"
*UVW_U_OFFSET 0.0
*UVW_V_OFFSET 0.0
*UVW_U_TILING 1.0
*UVW_V_TILING 1.0

If the Bitmap location is different to that then it explains the "not found" error that you are experiencing.

You can either put the .bmp in the location specified in the file or edit the file to C:\ut3\toto.bmp - it's up to you.

Please let us know how you get on.
-Jim.

Extra objects 3D Hello again,

I am happy to help - we would love to hear any feedback that you or the children have as we are trying to make Muvizu as kid-friendly as possible.

Emily actually worked alongside some children in Glasgow to make this video:

And Scott, a six year old visitor to the office made these videos with much earlier versions of the software:

If you have any other questions please let us know.

Extra objects 3D Hi Tangledbliss, thanks for trying Muvizu.

There are quite a few different places that you can get models to import into Muvizu - not all of them are the correct format, so they need to be converted in another program, which varies in difficulty depending on the software that you use.

Dreeko made a thread featuring model websites:

http://www.muvizu.com/Forum/topic813-list-of-3d-object-websites.aspx#post3399

And I made a tutorial about using Google Sketchup and Models from the Google Warehouse:

If you have any other questions or suggestions please let us know.

Take care,
-Jim.

Problems installing... Hi again Dylly, that looks like the right thing - especially since the .Net install is now working.

Hopefully the new version of .Net will solve the problem - if it doesn't could you please e-mail your DXDiag output file to us?

You can get it by doing the following:

Click on "Start"
Click on "Run"
Type in "Dxdiag"
Hit enter
Click yes if asked to check Driver Signatures
Once it's fully loaded click "Save All Information"
Choose where to save it
Click "Save"

Once you have that file could you please e-mail it to bugs@muvizu.com along with a note of the error, just in case it's someone else that opens the e-mail.

Hopefully that will shed some light on what is causing the crash, if .Net doesn't fix it.

Take care,
-Jim

Problems installing... Hi Dylly, sorry you are having trouble.

In most cases that message refers to a .NET framework error - you should be able to fix it by uninstalling the version on your PC (It will generally be described as "Microsoft.NET framework" in the uninstall menu) and either installing the version that comes with Muvizu (by running the Muvizu installer again and making sure that the .NET option is checked) or installing the latest version.

The latest version can be found at:

http://www.microsoft.com/net/download.aspx

Please let me know how you get on.

Take care,
-Jim.

Interface & Timeline Next thing you know someone will suggest this:

2011/2/8 10:12:51
Interface & Timeline And a "call me" animation (Thumb at ear, pinkie at mouth)!

Ziggy's suggestion making seems to be infectious........

will Muvizu Hi Dreeko,

If I remember correctly the planned order of custom content is:

Objects (Done) > Attachments > Characters > Animations

So I couldn't say what the exact plans are for imported characters etc. as while they are being looked at the exact plan of action hasn't been decided. (As the devs are still concentrating on the engine upgrade)

The devs do want you to have as many customisation options as possible (while keeping things simple for the average user) so have faith .

Take care,
-Jim.

will Muvizu Hi reidh, welcome to Muvizu!

There are currently no plans to be able to export characters - but character importing is one of the improvements that is being looked at.

Take care,
-Jim

Lights shining shapes Hi Pete,

One of the devs discovered something unusual in one of your models (but I am not sure which one :/ ) could you please try opening up the .ASE files with a text editor and looking for this entry (it's right at the top) - it's the bit in red that might be causing the problems:

Source *3DSMAX_ASCIIEXPORT
*COMMENT "HardPCM'S ASE output, Using HSKP2UNR.rb Plugin for Sketchup "
*MATERIAL_LIST {
*MATERIAL_COUNT 1
*MATERIAL 0 {
*MATERIAL_NAME "HSKP2UNR_Tex"
*MATERIAL_CLASS "Multi/Sub-Object"
*NUMSUBMTLS 13
*SUBMATERIAL 0 {
*MATERIAL_NAME "Engine.DefaultTexture"
*MATERIAL_CLASS "Standard"
*MAP_DIFFUSE {
*MAP_CLASS "Bitmap"
*BITMAP "C:\ut3\toto.bmp"
*UVW_U_OFFSET 0.0
*UVW_V_OFFSET 0.0
*UVW_U_TILING 1.0
*UVW_V_TILING 1.0

Once you have found the model it's in could you please try importing it to a blank set, saving it and seeing if it can load?

If it kills the blank set that means we know what model is causing it - if it does could you please try changing the red entry to:

*MATERIAL_NAME "<DarkRed>"

Then import it into another blank set? That should hopefully fix things (with the exception of the low memory issue :/ )

They are seeing if it's going to be possible to salvage the set, but this would allow you to use the model in the mean time.
Take care,
-Jim.

bleeding edge beta and things that made me go hmmn Just don't eat any pizza that you find under the cooker, as you might end up with the squits and require a glutinous mix of stringy pharmaceutical chemicals to solidify your innards.

(It's a Theme Hospital reference for those who didn't play mid-'90s games made by Bullfrog)

wont make my videos Hi again brownundiez,

Apparently the Intel IV41 codec isn't compatible with a lot of media players - even the versatile ones like VLC and Media Player Classic.

Could you please try recording your video again using a different codec? You can change the codec that you use by clicking on the "Options" button on the "Make Video" screen. If you aren't going to edit the video once you are finished XVid generally produces good results.

Take care,
-Jim.

bleeding edge beta and things that made me go hmmn Code Ninja? Surely you can't be referring to Dave?

Ninjas are meant to be agile and stealthy and Dave, well - is like this:

Output Sync timing Hi John,

I have put this into the system and spoken to the devs about it - hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for letting us know.

Take care,
-Jim.
