Had a thought - Muvizu HQ don't want these kind of default settings options in the program, as it adds choices that could confuse newbies and those less technically minded. We who are technically minded want more choices, not less. So, as a compromise, how about putting the default state of everything in Muvizu accessable as options in one of the various .ini files, or create a new one just for the default states of everything. We don't mind rummaging around in system directories to change this kind of stuff, and those who would mind aren't affected as the main program wouldn't change in any appreciable way. Make sense?

I've put your suggestions about imported props into our internal database... I fear that the idea of having the defaults for imported props on an option panel would come under the category of overcomplicating/cluttering the interface which is intended to be as clean and simple as possible to do the job, but I'll try and start some kind of internal discussion.

I'm just going to add saving/loading of "only walk" and "only run" as a new feature as it's easily done, won't do any harm and I can see why it's annoying to have these properties changed when you load a set.

Dave

Dave - I stand corrected. It's not a great problem. I use the "click to position" rather than the "drag" method mostly to move characters. If I forget then the first time I do a movement they always run. Personally I would prefer if the system defaulted to "only walk" as this is what I use 95% of the time.

Another thing....... Could we have some settings in options to set the default status of imported objects. The default is keep upright and can be stood on. This is the exact opposite of what would be most useful for me as...

Keep upright just introduces the "wobble about" or "refuse to go upright" issues. It's useful to set the upright position when the object is on the ground, but is best avoided otherwise.

As I don't use collision at all, most objects benefit from floating. Also when you first import into a blank space if I don't remember to click on "floats in air" then when you click off the object it plummets to the ground - sometimes it will end up inside another object or beneath the ground and I just immediately delete and re-import.

Can be stood on means that characters take off as soon as they get near things which is hard to control. I tend to use can't be stood on/no collision on all objects and just put in invisible ground planes on the rare occasions characters need to stand on something.

I'm sure others would like different settings so how about putting these and your default character movement state in some sort of option panel ?

If these suggestions get in the way of creating a neutral facial state for characters or characters holding things then please immediately ignore.

I also checked on an old version (0.19b) and if you save and load a character these values are not retained.

I think this is correct though: to me they are more transient controls rather than values inherent to the character that should be saved... but I'd listen to any opposing opinions :-)

Dave

some wierd error or other. I did a fresh install and cleaned my registry because it appeared my muvizu was scrambled. Alas it was not my pc that scrambled it..

anyhow when you create a video afterwards and try to save after doing some work you get the message that you cant save because the file is in use by some other application

after farting around I discovered that the video joiner (which i dont use) seems to not be shutting down or something after you do a render. I was about to go searching and I noticed that muvizu which seemed to be installed twice had a second instance running for the video joiner just as I was about to force it to shut down..

note: this is on the 64bit muvizu download.

basically if i do a little render I have to restart my pc before I can continue lol

edited by urbanlamb on 27/11/2012

I merely pointed it out in case no one had noticed. The request for compensation for such a serious oversight was of course wishful thinking. Allow us to space the eyes out and distort the head shapes as well!

(I had to follow praise with a request..It's the rules!)

Thanks again!

D
edited by Dreeko on 20/11/2012

You have fixed the transparencies! I can't break the trees anymore - thankyou! Also, for the train set, could we also have a 'splitter', you know, a section where the tracks split into two lines? Would look even cooler, and busier, if we can have some of them in there too. Next update, obviously

I was JUST struggling with that and WISHING and now my wish is a REALITY! so, I guess Christmas came EARLY! The Prison stuff would've been great months ago when I did the "Cruizzin Cuzzinz" video, but I will definitely find other uses for this beautiful Klink pak...Although, I am wondering exactly what types of crimes my characters can commit to go to the pen? they can't steal anything they can get their "hands on", they can't do murder for the same reason...Are they all just a buncha flashers and streakers? lol (jk) Everything looks great great great!...Thanks for all the updates!!! wait'll you see what I have in store for an upload in the video and textures dept!...Ayyyee!
edited by EEFilmz on 20/11/2012

Hi Jamie,

I was just being a little cheeky, pretending that you had promised us props in this release. Honestly though, we've been through this before. You might consider holding off on saying, in the "best possible way," because then how did Musical Instruments end up in the App? I mean, that would mean they weren't done in the best possible way, right? Yet they're in there.

Forget the "best possible way" way of thinking. That kind of mentality is what causes footballers to freeze or pass to a teammate instead of just shooting.

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
- Wayne Gretzky

Cheers, Dwino

Like what you've done with the place - added new places to imprison our characters, trains for the Heroes to stop, and...bog rolls! Finally, that most mundane of things is included! It's stupid I know, but it's the details that count

Also, do my eyes deceive me, or have you fixed the transparency issue where it wouldn't survive a save? Been experimenting with it, and it now seems to be working...although objects in sets that were already transparent have zero texture on them at all now, and when you re-import the transparent texture it does nothing or goes completely opaque. Still, no big deal, I can just re-import the original objects and they look okay now. My trees in Sammamish are going to look even better if this is going to work the way I think it will...
