Yes, Yes, Yes also! To both simonheffer's suggestion and to ukBerty's experience of selecting the wrong thing without being able to see what you've selected. I think a dialog box for the options would be great, but right now could we not just have a little text line added to the basic interface (overlaid?) with the name of the item you've got currently selected? Hang on, where's Neil at...

Or maybe make the time-line a real window so it can sit outside the main Muvizu window (which then applies to other windows heh-heh!)
edited by simonheffer on 13/07/2011

So loving the new UI and the cue points. Obviously there's a request (or two) coming...

...
can we label the cue points?
Can we play between two cue points? (useful for sound cues when the dialogue is snappy)
I'd like some minimal sound editing. I know it can be done elsewhere and the oft asked for multiple channels would help but I still find the action has to follow the sound, which means the timing has to be spot on when recorded. So I'd like the options to:
a) insert some silence
b) insert a new sound (eg a new line from the script).
c) paint the tracks for each character (eg fred speaks from here to here) - I guess one of those wavy lines would be handy there too. I believe I made this suggestion way back before the timeline came along and it still sounds good to me (sounds good - geddit?). We sort of have it but maybe inserting a talk event which we can then stretch would do it.
d) a non-timeline thing here would be a toggle rather than talk+shush would be easier than watching the timeline for the next cuepoint and moving the mouse at the same time. Hitting talk twice gives strange results!
e) on the same point when directing the current point marker(?) is quite close to the right hand-side which doesn't give much lead into the next cuepoint.

Thanks for listening,
Si

Okay, slightly odd request I guess, but could we have the option to clear all the loaded textures in the Object Properties window (when you're Animating the Image).

The reason I ask is that I've created a set, and I'm reusing it, and it contains a movie/image slideshow. To clear the slideshow, I have to select a Texture, set to None, close the Palette window, and do it again...8 more times! And I have to reuse the set 5 times, so... that's a lot of clicking. A 'Clear All Textures' button would be appreciated

Also, while I'm here, I've discovered that using an imported movie (as an Animated Image Texture) is a bit hit-and-miss in Muvizu - the movie doesn't always start at the start, if you see what I mean. When you Direct the cuts between AVIs, you'll get a flash of other bits of that AVI before it settles down and starts playing properly. And it records like that, so it's not just a glitch while previewing. Moving the start of the next cut actually alters where/how much of the flashing you get in the previous cut

I've resorted to using split screen so that I can edit out the flashes, so it's not so bad really.

PS it's actually sunny in Glasgow right now. The sun, I remember that...big glowy thing, right?

Yup, I also concur. It's nice to have the swoopy stuff, but an Off switch would be very helpful. I suppose you could have a slider to control the speed of swoops, from where it is now, down to faster, then off.

I think what we all want here is the option for the view to stay where it is while we work, regardless of what else we may be doing. It's functional, boring, but definitely more productive - but the kids should be able to keep their swoops if they like

Anyroadup, thanks for the reply, and to reply to your reply...

No Smiles
I can get around the expression thing since I know it's there, I just wanted to know if anyone else knew it was there. I feel better now, thankyou.

Object Properties Box
Where would I like you to put it? Ooh, the cheek of it! I was thinking you could have it snap to the side of the screen furthest away from the object you selected, thereby giving you the most space to see it. It would work best in widescreen I guess, but really anywhere else except the centre of the screen would be an improvement.

Error Pasting Object
How about having an option to show a ghost preview in front of you of the thing you're about to paste, and have it turn red if it intersects anything that would prevent it from pasting? The preview doesn't have to be detailed or anything, just a box would do really (the collision one maybe?). And yes, it would make me chew through my monitor if I had to see the error message for any set length of time - I'm trying to work here!

And Muvizu obviously needs some psychotherapy - Tell me about your mother...

New gripes! Been creating a set, and the same 3 problems keep bugging me ;

No smiles - I create a character, he's happy, he's smiling, great. I load the set up later on, and he's not smiling anymore - his state is still generally happy, but his mouth is now closed when idle, no teeth showing. It's a small point I know, but it's hard to get any consistency when the characters decide how they're feeling, not me. Wierdly, if you copy and paste the character (multiple times even), he'll come out showing various states of happiness, regardless of the Expressiveness level. Why?

Object Properties Box - You right click on something, and the object properties box appears...right on top of what you wanted to change, so now you cant see it and have to drag the properties box somewhere else. Over and over again. Every time. Annoying, but not half as annoying as...

Error - There was an error pasting the object.
Not enough room. Please try again in another location.

Okay, so I click OK and move over a bit and try pasting...
Error - There was an error pasting the object.
Okay, I click OK, move somewhere else...
Error - There was an error pasting the object.
But there's tons of space!!! I'm high up and everything. Try again...
Error - There was an error pasting the object.
AARRGGHH!!!! The fact it's so damn picky about where you paste things is bad enough, but do we REALLY have to click OK to acknowledge it every single time? Couldn't the error box just appear, then disappear after a second or two? I know there's not enough room, why do I have to tell the program I agree with it? Does Muvizu feel insecure? What I'm asking for is that the message not bring everything to a grinding halt until you click OK.

Apart from that, all's good!

Hmmm... I dunno about hiding cameras when you can't see their viewport. That'll really confuse a lot of people. I was initially thinking of showing just a single viewport by default. If a camera is selected, it'll render that camera, otherwise it'll show the currently recording camera. I'd also include buttons and whatnot for locking the view to a particular camera. But this way, we're only ever rendering a single camera and I can't think of a reason why we'd need to limit the number of cameras at all.

Anywho, I'll chat with the other devs and see if we can come up with something.

Otherwise the screen would be very crowded with say 12 cameras lying around.
Wotja think?

D

Since I've been chatting a little about the new UI that's in development, I just wanted to take a moment to go over Ziggy's points here. Please bear in mind that I'm discussing work that's still very much in progress, and I reserve the right to completely change my mind if it looks like hard work.

ziggy72 wrote:

The option to turn off the mouse prompts (I get it! Honestly! RMB and everything! No need to take up the bottom of the screen anymore!)

Okay, I get it! You want more screen real estate! In the new UI, dialogs won't be constrained to the main Muvizu window so you'll be able to drag them anywhere you like, even onto another monitor if you have one. In that case, would you still want the option to turn them off?

ziggy72 wrote:

Numbers on the scales. Please. Even if it's just a single number for each scale to tell you what value it reads, I need to be able to repeat the rescaling (especially now that we can rescale in other directions).

Annoying, isn't it. The new sliders will have text boxes next to them where you can see the actual numbers, or even type them in. And little up-down arrows. And they'll work with the mouse wheel too.

ziggy72 wrote:

A customisable Timeline - I don't need every track on there for every character, and the Timeline takes up a lot of screen space, so being able to disable a few lines would help a lot. There could be a row of checkboxes along the top to allow you to re-enable tracks as and when needed. Obviously the tracks wouldn't be deleted when disabled, just hidden.

I haven't really done much with the new timeline yet, but I expect much of it to be collapsible. With the click of a button you'll be able to hide/show an entire set of tracks.

ziggy72 wrote:

Assuming we can turn off the mouse prompts, the timeline could be shown lower on the screen.

Again, this window will be divorced from the main window, so you can drag it anywhere you like.

ziggy72 wrote:

The cue points prevent you from selecting the start/end markers of the Timeline when they're on top of them. Any way we can make the start/end markers bigger or something?

I'll bear that in mind.

ziggy72 wrote:

Would love to have a graphical representation of the waveform on the audio tracks. There's a small technical hitch with it, so you may have to live with it a while longer, but I'm working on it.

ziggy72 wrote:

In the Make Video screen, it would be nice to have the left side (currently empty) showing the name of the video, the path/filename it's being saved as, and the codec information.

I'll bear that in mind. No need to take up the bottom of the screen anymore!)

Numbers on the scales. Please.
