totally stumped by transparent textures help? Aha! Got it - my problem was not using Single Sided, which seems to mess up the transparent effect. Thank you again, Dylly, although I now have to find a better wine glass (the one I was using has some bad artefacting (is that a word?) but other .ASE files I tried looked excellent).

I don't have 3D Max, and I've seen you mention you can get if from TurboSquid before - I joined up a few weeks ago, but I don't see where on the site the lite version is. Any pointers would be appreciated

totally stumped by transparent textures help? Dylly you're a genius, but I have a coupla questions...

How do you make a 'multi sub/object material', and in what program?

I read elsewhere (on another of your posts, can't remember which one) that you could create a transparent texture using alpha channels on TGA files and what have you - I tried it, step by step, and it didn't work for me at all. See, really all I'd like to know is this - I have a (.ASE) wineglass, all one texture, and I want to make it semi-opaque - can it be done in Muvizu? And windows, God how I'd love to have windows with some glass in them. I've often wondered why there are transparent patio doors and helicopter canopies (like Mysto pointed out) and yet no windows.

Anyway, I await your wisdom, Master Yoda

Feedback Thread - v0.19b release (January 2012). Finally installed this version, and it's pretty good - the muliple audio tracks and character effects will be very handy (although I fear the Vomit and Fart effects may get overused by some Muvizuers - you know who you are! )

So far so good, so I loaded up a set, it runs real slow, but it runs, and then I turn off the lights, then on again. It tells me it's compiling shaders...for over 10 minutes. I thought well, okay, the first time it does it, it might take a while so I turned off the lights and then back on again and guess what? It's still compiling again as I type this, and will still be doing it long after I've finished. I think, unless you have a fix for this, I'll just be going back to version .18 for now. Well, once it stops compiling anyway. Sigh. It was all going so well too - even the timeline zoom's fixed.

Censorship by Muvizu ? As part of the small majority of pedants, I'd like not to agree with what you didn't say... Now my brain hurts

I think you meant to write

I think that makes more sense

Muvizu - My personal thoughts... ...and I'm sure no one is going to disagree with that. I also tried to use 3D packages before, but could only ever create static scenes - animation was just too time consuming and awkward to do. Then along comes Muvizu... Not just a great bit of software, but a really nice bunch of developers behind it, and a supportive community who don't go mental at each other all the time (like on some forums I've seen! Totally agree with that one, Mysto). I've just spent two weeks making an animation for no other reason than it was fun to do. Hours every day after work, just for a 3 minute bit of sillyness to (hopefully) make people laugh. Those Saturday morning cartoons are to blame for it all...

Reset head movement so action can happen? Steven547 wrote:
Thanks! So I understand this, AFTER the head movement, RELEASE, then I can have the other actions implemented, right? Would this basically be the same method for all other actions then? Especially with the "eye" movement, etc..

Yup - in Muvizu, it's usually best to just do one type of action, then correct the timing in the Timeline later on. Eye Size, for example, cant be animated over the top of Eye Movements (without resetting the eyes) so you would do that later, then move the Size blocks back (to the position you originally wanted) in the Timeline (if the new version has fixed this issue then ignore that!). For the head movements, do them first, release the head, then record the Mosh Pit action, then move the Mosh Pit action back to where you wanted it. You have to creative in your timing, you see

Object Mirroring! By that I mean, um, mirroring the object. So it's opposite. Y'know.

I haven't checked Muvizu yet (I'm a n00b) but in some applications you can create a mirror effect by scaling in the negative direction and for some you scale to -1 which results in a mirror effect. Is that a possibility here? Just allow scaling in the negative direction?

Not yet possible with Muvizu, but that would be a good way of doing it since you could mirror an object in any axis very easily and quickly.

Random requests! i agree Good one! Also, combine that with one of my requests (making light sources glow/be visible) and you have the makings of a very cool effect.

I tryed loading my set that was made in the previous version before v0.19b. It worked but it moved at a majorly slow frame rate. I delete all lights and 90% of statics just leaving the barebones of the room and it remain the same slow frame rate. To fix I had to copy the statics and then create a new set and paste in and rearange. This fixed the frame issue and it became fast again but now I couldn't press the record button to record any events.

hi John,

Can you send us the set file? We'll try to work out what has caused the slower performance with it. I think your second issue is one of the known bugs with the UI - sometimes it freezes up a bit. I think if you save your work and restart Muvizu the record button should work again. CTRL-Space should also work if the timeline recorded is frozen. There is a work around that is a little hit and miss as well. If you close the direct mode (whatever feature you are trying to record for) and go to the timeline and directly back to the direct mode you want to use it should unfreeze the timeline recorder there .

Can I just add that I always move the timeline marker a bit as well, as this seems to help unfreeze the Direct mode.

I'd also like to add that I have nothing to add yet (?!) as I am not installing this version until I've finished my current vid - I really don't want any problems with a new set (you'll see why). Actually can't wait to try the new version, problems and all - it's all part of the experience

Website feedback Good stuff, although one thing is odd - the Twitter feed scrolls up and then is blank. You get a flash of something every now and then, but it becomes an empty grey box. Refreshing the page resets it, but it just scrolls out of existance again. I'm using IE9.

Extend character actions and such? What He Said

...also, there is an update for the program (hopefully) tomorrow, and it's just these sort of features that we collectively suggest (or plead for) that can end up in there. So if it isn't in there tomorrow, you know what to do

Adding PowerPoint Slides Hi ATBL (it's a long name ). I had the same problem, and got round it by using backdrops (with my pre-prepared images loaded into them), and then animated the backdrops to allow me to 'step' through the slides (Tutorial 21).

For just text, it's easiest to create the words on transparent PNG files and then use backdrops to place them in the set. You could also export the Powerpoint slides as a movie, then show the movie on a backdrop too.

Essentially, what I'm trying to say is you're going to have to get very familiar with using backdrops!

Has he been yet ? Wow, I've actually won something! First time ever - thankyou. Congrats to Dylly and Hex, and I have to agree with Toon on the Mona Lisa one - thinking about it, I suppose it showed off what you could do with external 3D stuff more than what you could do with just Muvizu though, and I guess that was more what you (Vince and the Muvizu Crew) were after. That's my theory anyroadup. Thanks again!

How do you create the transparent part on the wall or "texture"? Thanks in advance!

Create your image for the wall, then cut out the bit you want to be transparent - you have to use something like Gimp or Photoshop to create images with transparent backgrounds, rather than blank backgrounds (which are just white, usually). Then you export your image as a GIF file, to preserve the transparency (jpgs and the like will convert the transparent bits to a colour). Now, go enjoy Christmas and leave Muvizu alone for a bit!
