Dog Coat Textures Hi dogzwash, thanks for trying Muvizu.

I have passed your suggestions on for extra customisation options for the dog - having a selection of tails would certainly make it easier to have different breeds of dog in Muvizu.

If you have any other questions or suggestions please let us know.

Take care,
-Jim

Help! Importing google warehouse Hi idealess,

When importing objects with lots of different colours you might want to set "ID Textures" to "Use ID textures". This can remove the ability to apply decals to the custom model but should also make the object window a lot smaller.

I am also in the process of making some tutorials for SketchUp which will include advice on making your objects as compatible as possible.

Take care,
-Jim.

ASE import Hi Tripfreak, thanks for reporting this issue.

After investigating further we have discovered that if you select "Map Alpha to > Opacity Mask" when importing objects the textures are saved with the rest of the model.

We are looking into a fix, but this workaround should work in the meantime.

Stonehead,

If you select "ID Texture > Use ID Textures" the menu should be smaller - I will also be making a tutorial for editing objects to increase their compatibility with Muvizu.

Take care,
-Jim.

Importing from Google Sketchup Hi folks,

I have created a tutorial on how to import objects from the Google Warehouse via Google Sketchup.

You can get Sketchup from:

http://sketchup.google.com/download/

You also need the .ASE exporter plugin from:

http://wickedhq.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=88&func=startdown&id=147

The audio isn't great (I sat too close to the PC - you can hear it humming in the background) so I will be re-recording the audio (as well as adding a proper intro screen and subtitles) and uploading it again - I just thought you guys might want it for the weekend.

Any feedback is welcome .

-Jim

Import Assets Tutorial Hi Mick,

I am in the process of creating a few tutorials about importing objects from the Google warehouse, which will vastly increase the number of objects that you can use. I have also asked one of our modellers if he can make a tutorial for creating a "Muvizu-style" object in Maya and he said he would get back to me.

Take care,
-Jim

What codec do you use and why? +1 for XVid - small file sizes, low detail loss - can be used easily in VirtualDub (if you re-encode like Jamie suggests).
2010/9/3 11:16:41
Motion JPEG (Don't overlook it!) I think the K-Lite pack is one of the best downloads on the Net - but make sure you grab the Full codec pack as the others are missing some pretty good codecs.

Basic spec for using software to full capacity Hi again Mick,

No Direct X 11 support shouldn't be a problem - the devs are looking at moving onto DX 10 as it would allow anti-aliasing, but any GeForce 9 + card has DX10 support.

I would always recommend GeForce cards with Unreal Engine products as Epic do a lot of work with Nvidia and as such GeForce cards tend to work better.

The website "Tom's Hardware" does a pretty good graphics card comparison:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2010-gaming-graphics-charts-high-quality/Sum-of-FPS-Benchmarks-Totals,2393.html

The GeForce 9800GT (which I own) runs Muvizu pretty well so anything close to or above it should be fine.

and also a "best bang for buck" guide:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-460-radeon-hd-5570-gaming,review-31965.html

Prices are in $ but the cheap cards are generally also cheap in the UK.

If you have any other questions just fire away.

-Jim.

Basic spec for using software to full capacity Hi Mick,

You get the best "bang for buck" by building your own system (or by giving a student a crate of beer to do it for you) - you can build a system that would run Muvizu comfortably for around £275.

The reason you can build a pc yourself for less cash is that most PC manufacturers don't use older components - they can still do the job, but they aren't as popular with people buying PCs from a manufacturer. (The GeForce 8800GT would run Muvizu fine, but I bet you will struggle finding a Manufacturer that has it in their PCs)

An "off the shelf" system can also be a good option - if you get the right one - this system on eBuyer would run Muvizu very well and is about £150 less than a similar Dell machine:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/183308

If you want I could give you some ideas about specific parts and what to avoid.

Take care,
-Jim

minor website bug Hi Mick,

It's possible that the bug that Ian and Des have now fixed was causing problems with uploads last night - it would be great if you could please try it again.

BTW, I saw it when you first uploaded it to YouTube - it was a pretty cool idea .

Take care,
-Jim.

Youtube account problem Hi Beretta, sorry you are having trouble.

Does the error message come up as soon as you click "Login to YouTube" in your profile or after you click "Allow" on the YouTube pop-up?

Keyframe animator? Hi Mick,

I can't make any promises, but I know that the guys working on it want object movement to make it in for the next release.

Take care,
