Hello all

I am hoping one of our model experts may be able to help.

I need a shopping trolley that I can import as a held object and found a suitable one on sketchup which isn't too resource heavy here

http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=e3ac2c55a54713e07f5f437395597a36

If I load into sketchup or Reallusion 3dxchange the cart basket has opacity so you can see inside it.

I converted into FBX using the Autodesk converter and loaded it into Muvizu but now the transparency has been lost. If I reload the FBX file back into 3dxchange the transparency is still there.

I tried all sorts of things last night without success - anybody got any ideas?

Your using the 3d exchange? make sure to manually set the opacity of the object also change the format of the file its possible its using a jpg for some reason reallusion uses a lot of jpg (never figured that one out its probably the worste choice of photo file to use but anyhow).. look at the graphics from the cart and make sure its actually transparent and they aren't using masking and save it as a semi transparent png. Muvizu i have found is not supporting an opacity mask in the fbx format i think.. not positive yet but....

If you want to use opacity masking your going to need to use their ase format lol. I haven't had luck with opacity mask in fbx yet although I haven't gone on a mission to find out if this is broken or not yet I just noticed it the other day when I made an assumption

so it supports opacity settings. but I think possibly not opacity mask .. i have to go back and pay attention to this one day like when i make a tree or something

so rifle through the material list which is usually insantely large for a sketchup object find the material that is holding the texture for that blue part of the cart and dial down opacity on the thing and try importing that. Of course if its double sided you will have another issue fbx files typically in unreal engine are single sided to save on resources

yes i downloaded the cart to check when i got a second I didnt import into muvizu but from the looks of it just turn opacity down on that blue parts you will have it semi transparent inside muvizu the opacity was set to 100% this is a default setting and muvizu wont turn on opacity unless you give it a value lower then 100%

Thank you Urbanlamb

Still no success but at least I learned something important about opacity.

However I decided to try a 3darchive trolley (as per a previous suggestion from your good self) and despite the prop looking much more complex it was virtually the same size and worked perfectly!

Thank you very much!

I'm a little late here, but unfortunately I had not much time this week and didn't spend a 2nd look.

Nevertheless, I remembered that I've seen some trolleys in the program that's name shall better not be mentioned here:

They converted pretty easy with the additional help program to the program with the unspeakable name:

Some time ago I set some links to even more self-converted lowpoly props (~800) from a no longer sold product, e.g.:

In case you're interested, have a look in the other forum (toonarama and uranlamb should know) or write a mail.
