I think I need some advice on Codecs - What are people using ?

I'm using Pinnacle Studio to compile my Muvizu videos as it allows me to do a certain amount of post effects.

I'm using the Microsfot Video 1 codec at the moment, but the sound does not come over to Studio and I have to try and resync with the original audio file. This is really annoying.
If I put the output of Muvizu throgh another application like Virtualdub it then works fine in Studio - but it's a bit of a faff.

What Codec can I get to get round this ?

Any ideas ?

Chris

I've been using software from AVS4YOU with good results. The link is http://www.avs4you.com/?Type=App&ProgID=1&URL=Main

You can use it for free or purchase it. I think it installs the needed codecs for you. Also, if you do purchase a program you actually get ALL of the software on their site with free updates. A pretty good deal if you ask me. Great software at a great price.

Thanks for your reply Mysto.

I've installed the AVS Video Editor (which looks quite cool by the way), but no Codes in Muvizu for it. Was this the product you meant ?

Yes that is the product, I assumed it would install codecs but I've been wrong before. Here are a few sites that I have bookmarked of where you may get some codecs. I hope these help you.

http://www.video-buzz.com/
http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
http://afreecodec.com/

I hope you find something you need there.

Codec choice depends on what you want to do with your Muvizu clip. I'd say if you want to do a quick Muvizu clip and publish online then go for XVID or DIVX. Both of these codecs make high-quality movies with very small file sizes. Both of these codecs write AVI files that are MP4 compression. MP4, incidently, is about the best we're at with internet video. Many of the high-end quicktime trailers and even youTube's internal format is MP4.

But, if you want to push your Muvizu clip through a post-process or editing application then do not use XVID or DIVX. The MP4 system is not suitable for editing. It breaks down when you try to scrub through the file. I spent ages trying to find a codec for "Geraldo and the Plan." In the end I found the K-Lite codec pack and opted to use lossless motion-JPEG. I got big (but not huge) files that could be used in Adobe Premiere.

What I did is:

Donloaded and installed Xvid codec.
Made movies from muvizu to Xvid format.

Imported them into vegas studio, but pinnicle would do, then edit it and create video in best quality format perhaps uncompressed?

Then used CI Video Converter Max I found to convert it to Xvid.

That's just what I did, don't know if it's best way...

What version of Muvizu are you using? 64 0r 32 bit? When I moved onto the 64 bit I found that I needed to install the 64 bit version of the K-lite pack.

Um, I may be stating the obvious here, but I thought Muvizu was only capable of exporting movies in 720 HD, not 1080. Also, there has never been an option for uncompressed video either (unless you count the intel YUV codec, which is what I use, and is more or less uncompressed). I am also using the 64 bit version with K-lite codecs, and I only get 4 options for output as well. Hope this clears that up.

Hello, just to clarify at the moment by we don't output at 1080p. Because the files can end up so large it can cause some problems. This is deliberate. As noted above 720 is the highest we output at currently.
