Mobile Phone Action
It works like Photoshop, and you can link it to PS so that you can edit the UVs in there, save them, and when you come back here the model has already updated. I just paint on the model directly though, which is just so satisfying... Anyway, great program, and I'm still learning.

Also 3Dcoat is very cool yup it lacks some things that zbrush has but its actually faster to work with then zbrush for the options that it replicates due to the voxel thing. If you just like to make cool art and never export it to anything else its good for that too. You can make some nice scenes just you know for prettyness right inside it. Although I find it awkward for hard surface modelling its really nice for anything that is organic. Big Grin

Yeah, for simple stuff I rough it out in something simpler (sketchup, blender, etc) and then give it the Coat treatment Gavel

What is a good external HD to purchase? Rocque, if you have USB 3 then an external drive is a good idea, for USB 2 it isn't so much (too slow IMO). I have always used Seagate drives, and currently use the older version of this 2Tb one https://www.shop.bt.com/products/seagate-2tb-expansion-usb-3-0-desktop-3-5--external-hard-drive-steb2000200-B8NF.html

When looking for an external drive, avoid anything that says 'portable' because with them you're paying for the physical size, not capacity or speed. Lots of manufacturers simply rebadge someone else's HDD and stick it inside an enclosure, so check the specs! NAS drives are a good idea if you have lots of family members also trying to access the storage, but if it's only going to be yourself using it then they are probably unnecessary. Hope that helps

Downloading outerra as I type... That looks really good, and I was recently pointed in the direction of Lumberyard, another 3d generator but more geared to making (1st person shooter type) games with. And that one's free, and as far as I know you can also shoot 'on the set' as it were. Anyway, nice vid, great sound fx, although surely with the advent of layers there's no need for bluescreens or greenscreens any more? I'm layers all the way, me

Hi Ziggy,

Thanks for the direction, I will have a look at Lumberyard.
I did try layers, but somehow the shadows on the ground don't get rendered in the layer, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

There's a toggle on the layer menu (in the layer properties, where you first create them) to render separate shadows, which should sort that.

KYUSS DEMON CLEANER It was a good first attempt (nice to see the effects getting chucked about) but there were two things that bugged me - the light patches on the Saw puppet dude's hands, and you didn't put the shades down on the singers nose, so they floated. Sorry, I just hate to see floating glasses, it's an OCD type thing I have

in the screen shot with the blue arm... what software was that?

3D Coat - you can get a 30 day trial of the full program here http://3dcoat.com/download/

It's a hefty program, but damn does it do it's job well. Well, once you learn the intricacies of it it does it's job well, which isn't easy because the tutorials are all out of date...

Mobile Phone Action Additional note - the blender collision volume has to be named UCX_modelname, but never UCX_model_name - the underscore character means something in this context, which I didn't realise, which is why I couldn't get the collision to work right. Sorted!

Alien Grey (Cow Abduction 2) Creepy little bugger, isn't he? And I've never seen an alien with a moustache before... It's good, but Pat's right, you would benefit from a bit of 'compression' to speed up the edits and titles a bit. Also, I would have sped up the footage of the Grey creeping up on the cows (at 2:30), since the Muvizu run cycle is a bit slow looking in this case.

Extend or combine character actions As well as animating the Visibility to do this, you could also use Layers - one layer with, one without, then cut between them in the edit.

Black line at top of screen after rendering? I recently tried reinstalling the latest nvidia drivers (to see if the situation had improved) and the black lines came back. Uninstalled the drivers, let windows download it's own nvidia driver, and the lines are gone. I use DOF on everything, always have, and I can assure you this is a driver issue.

New one for me - happened just as I hit the Close button on the Make Video bit.

Gallery Videos missing? All the movies in the gallery seem to have gone missing, except the Muvizu Admin ones. They still work on Youtube, but they're not shown here anymore.

Assigna Material for an imported FBX prop. Blender's FBX exporter works well enough with Muvizu that you can retain the textures - export your model as an OBJ with materials, import into blender, export as FBX (Smoothing set to Faces not Normals) and your model should import into Muvizu with textures intact. Should

Feb 2016 release feedback/bugs As it happens, I just experienced this too - tried to KF animate an object tumbling, but it wouldn't rotate forward, only side to side. Just used normal animation instead of the KF, but if restarting fixes it I'll try again.

Feb 2016 release feedback/bugs Tried the latest Nvidia drivers and still get the same image corruption of any output from any set. Going back to the default windows drivers sorted it as before, but this is not a sustainable situation. Eventually I'm going to have to use the latest drivers.

Work around for the dialog system Personally I always use one sound file for each speaker, but using the sound effects channel instead is a good idea (never thought of trying that one...). One observation though - when directing head movements, you should always move the head speed slider down to less than 10 unless you want your actors to look like hyperactive robots.

Feb 2016 release feedback/bugs If you load an object into a non visible layer then the Properties section doesn't appear for that object. Textures still work, you just can't access them. Also, cameras can still sometimes get stuck doing the 360 degree spin for no reason when keyframing movement for them.
