Hi folks, especially testers...

On the general feedback thread for Muvizu:Play 1.0 gimmick notes that double clicking on the camera window causes a crash.

http://www.muvizu.com/Forum/topic2622-muvizuplay-v10-feedback.aspx?p=f#post15444

We're completely unable to reproduce this issue here at HQ so we need your help. Has this happened or does it happen for you? If so can you

a) list your computer specifications (graphics card, memory, operating system, if you've installed the 3 required packages with 1.0 or if you had them installed from before)
b) give us a list of steps to follow to get the crash
c) give us screen shots or video of the crash happening (cam studio is a nice little free program to record your desktop http://camstudio.org/)

Many thanks!

Hello Jamie,
Some answers:

a/ notebook with windows7, intel i7, 4GB ram, nvidia GeForce GT 230M, muvizu 0.23b. No problem with Muvizu from 0.18 to 0.23

With MuvizuPlay I have installed Rosie pack & costume pack.
Other packs already here on my system
Maybe the problem : during the install I have unchecked
install Visual C++ Runtime
install directX Runtime june2010
install Net framework 4.0

b+c/ unfortunately, MuvizuPlay is uninstalled from my system I still have 0.23

But this crash was systematic and with the opening of a technical text window.

Hi Jamie,

I have this problem 100% of times when I double click in the camera window. Here's my config:

MZASS v1.0 build 2013.04.12.01R (64-bit). Full package.
Win 7 Pro SP1
All Windows update are installed

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Muvizu:Play
2. On new scene click Cancel (though it doesn't matter)
3. View - Show cameras window
4. Double click inside camera window

Here's the error:
Fatal error!

I agree with ember.
I think also that the crash is the same for a simple click inside camera window

Hi there

i just tried this as I saw a thread with system configs similar to mine

I did a fresh install and removed every trace of 23b and cleaned the registry and has no crashes its on 64bit its the download dated today err

MuvizuPlaySetupDXDotNetFull_2013.04.12.01R_x64

are people installing over top the old version ? say having 23b on their pc and it says that a new version is available and it asks you if you want to upgrade?

To add to my config: it was a CLEAN install, no previous version was installed, no .Net, just DirectX.

Another valuable thing: I beleive it's not connected with hardware, because I have exactly the same situation with my other computer, which is a notebook. So my PC and my notebook has completeley different hardware, nothing is the same.

Similarities are on the software side:
- both are running Win7 Pro SP1
- both had no previous versions of Muvizu
- both had no .net until Muvizu installation
- both have all .net updates installed by the Windows Update service

I also found out that the problem concerns both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Muvizu:Play, also both AZASS version is 1.0, build 2013.04.09.01R and MZASS v1.0 build 2013.04.12.01R.

Hope this helps.

Just an idea: what if I reinstall all the .net packages (via Control Panel) and then install them again but from the Microsoft site? Will it help?

I don't know which .net package to install, is it http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718 ?

I have a feeling that .net inside the Muvizu installation file is broken.

I got the camera window crash and when I installed MuvizuPlaySetupDXDotNetFull_2013.04.09.01R_x64, I didn't install "Net framework 4.0", "Visual C++ Runtime" & "directX Runtime june2010"

These 3 components are already on my system and Muvizu 0.23 works fine.

Maybe that MuvizuPlaySetupDXDotNetFull_2013.04.12.01R_x64 is better ?

Yes, that's the one.

Or this one will do: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

Yours is the stand-alone installer that downloads everything before you run it. The one I linked is the web installer that is a smaller initial download, then it downloads only the bits you need when you run it. Either way, they both install the .NET Framework 4.

As for the actual crash, I'm sorry that we haven't released a fix for it yet. We're really struggling to get that same crash at Muvizu Towers and until we do, we can't work out what's causing it. Rest assured we're working on it, but please be patient with us. In the meantime, please accept my apology and have a funny animation of a baby polar bear being tickled.

You may already have tried this but in the past whenn I have had problems installing Muvizu I did a complete uninstall and then install including setting the checkboxes for .net and direct x and letting it "repair" them even though they were in full working order.

I've tried to remove .net via Control Panel (both Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Extended and Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile), reboot and install them again from the Microsoft site.

No luck. Still fatal errors.

Ember, could you please do me a favour and try something else to see if you get the same crash?

  • Right-click the camera (the 3D camera itself, not the window) and select "Edit".
  • In the dialog box that opens, there should be a "Show window" button. Click it.
  • It'll either crash the same way, or open up a new window with just the view from that camera in it.

Let me know what happens. Thanks.

Neil, no problem, but you will not like what you are going to read:

Bang! Crash immideately after I click on the Edit item in the camera menu.

Moreover, as I reported on the other thread, there are a lot of ways to crush Muvizu. For example:
  • Select any object, right-click, select Edit - crash.
  • Select any backdrop, right-click, select Edit - crash.
  • Select any effect, right-click, select Edit - crash.
  • Select any words, right-click, select Edit - crash.
  • Select Create - Edit environment - crash.
The interesting thing is that it's NOT crashing when editing characters.

I really want to help eliminate those bugs, so if you need anything - just ask.

Thanks, Ember. That is interesting. And weird. Hmmm...

Is anybody else seeing this crash, or anything similar to it?

I don't know if this helps but I think it may be machine specific. I have not had any of these crashes. If I did you would know.
I don't run Muvizu side by side with anything else and did not install the additional packages ( .NET etc ) when installing.

Hope this helps.

Gimmick reported the same thing, it's on this thread.
I have this error on two of my computers: PC and notebook. Thus I don't think it's hardware related, because they are completely different. They have the same OS, though, which is Win7 Pro SP1.
